A Hearthstone company - serving Manassas, VA

Copperfield Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Copperfield Fireplace Services in Manassas: What to Know First

We provide independent Copperfield fireplace services in Manassas, from gas valve troubleshooting on the Churchill series to firebox refractory panel replacement on the Brentwood line. Most Copperfield repairs run $180-$650 and are completed in a single visit, with your technician showing you camera footage of the problem before any work begins. We do not sell you a liner you do not need, and we do not book a second trip unless the part is genuinely back-ordered.

This page is for Manassas homeowners who installed a Copperfield fireplace or insert in the 2000-2015 window, when these units were common in new construction around Liberia and the Sudley area, and who now need service from someone who knows the difference between a Churchill 42 and a Brentwood 36 without reading the manual in your driveway. Call (571) 586-0593. A live person answers.

How Copperfield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Churchill direct-vent gas fireplaces: pilot outage on cold Manassas mornings. The Churchill’s SIT 820 valve is sensitive to millivolt drop when the thermopile ages. In Manassas, where January lows hit the teens, we see this more than in milder climates because the thermal cycling is sharper. We test millivolt output under load, replace the thermopile if it’s below 325 mV, and clean the pilot orifice with a proper #79 bit - not a paperclip. If the valve itself is failing, we source the OEM SIT or a Robertshaw equivalent that matches the manifold pressure spec.
  • Brentwood wood-burning fireboxes: cracked refractory panels after decade two. The Brentwood’s factory panels are 1.25-inch refractory cement, rated for thermal shock but not forever. After twenty years of Manassas shoulder-season burns (October, March) where the fire never fully heats the box, thermal fatigue shows as hairline cracks radiating from the grate rails. We install Hargrove or Empire aftermarket panels cut to spec, or factory panels if the homeowner prefers. We photograph every crack and show you before we quote.
  • Copperfield chimney caps: galvanized mesh corrosion from Red Run clay soil moisture. The standard Copperfield cap uses 18-gauge galvanized mesh. In Manassas, where the clay-heavy soil holds moisture and the humidity cycles hard, we’ve pulled caps where the mesh has rusted through in eight years. We upgrade to Gelco stainless 5/8-inch mesh or Famco copper caps that outlast the original by decades. The flue liner gets inspected while we’re up there - no extra trip charge.
  • Churchill 36 inserts: blower motor bearing noise after 12-15 seasons. The factory Fasco blower runs at fixed speed and accumulates dust from Manassas’s pollen-heavy springs. Bearing wear starts as a whine, becomes a rattle, then seizes. We stock the correct 115V replacement and test amperage draw against the spec plate. A motor pulling over 2.8 amps is telling you the control module is next; we’ll say so plainly.
  • Copperfield throat dampers: rust-jammed plates in pre-2010 installs. Older Copperfield throat dampers used plated steel that corrodes where the Manassas humidity meets creosote condensation. The plate jams open (heat loss) or closed (smoke backup). We remove the plate, inspect the smoke shelf for debris, and install a Lock-Top or Lyemance top-sealing damper if the throat is too damaged to rebuild. The top-sealer eliminates the corrosion point entirely.

Our Copperfield Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
Call intake. A live person answers, notes your Copperfield model if you know it, and books a window. We ask about symptoms, not just “fireplace service.”
  2. 2
Arrival and diagnostic. Our technician arrives in a marked van, uniformed, and starts with a Level-2 camera inspection. You see the flue, the firebox, the gas manifold, or the damper on a tablet in real time.
  3. 3
Parts decision. For Copperfield units, we check OEM availability against quality aftermarket. A Churchill gas valve from the factory might take ten days; a Robertshaw equivalent with the same pressure rating gets you heat tonight. We explain the trade-off and let you choose.
  4. 4
Repair and test. We complete the work, leak-test gas connections with a manometer, or run a draft test on wood units. The technician shows you the before-and-after photos.
  5. 5
Written guarantee. You get a printed report with photos, the 90-Day Done Right Promise, and the final invoice matching the upfront quote. No paperwork to mail, no arguing if something needs adjustment.
  6. 6
Cleanup and close. We vacuum, lay down fresh drop cloths for the next job, and leave the hearth as we found it. Most visits take two to three hours.

Why Manassas Homeowners Call Hearthstone Chimney Co. for Copperfield Work

We’ve been answering the phone with a live person for over 42 years, and we plan to be here when your next chimney needs attention. The 90-Day Done Right Promise is in writing, no arguing - if it’s not right, we come back. Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and carry the multi-brand inventory to finish most Copperfield jobs in one visit: DuraFlex liners, HeatShield cerfractory, Gelco caps, and the right fittings for Churchill and Brentwood series.

Russell Haines, our owner, spent the better part of two decades inspecting chimneys across Northern Virginia, including older homes near the Manassas National Battlefield Park where the fireplaces are original to the house and the creosote buildup tells the whole story. If the flue is clear and the mortar is solid, we’ll tell you that. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you that too.

We are an independent Copperfield service provider, not affiliated with or authorized by the manufacturer. That independence means we source the part that fixes your problem, not the part a factory rep needs to move.
